  Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread

  this topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.

  latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.

  the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

  MeanMr.Mustard - Well I have one roll left and it's only me so that will last a while. Hahaha toilet paper. There are other things you can do. People have survived without it. An old favorite of the outhouse was a corncob. ouch.

  seriously, i can't help wondering whether their hiatus from meetings and service will alter their post-covid-19 lifestyle once they experience the freedom of life in the absence of the hamster wheel?.

  Many JW's have not been subjected to a life or death situation like this. They see staged Armageddon picts but that is nothing like a virus that can seriously take you down and is spreading. Might change their life perspective a little.

  But on the other hand, it might make them cling tighter. No atheists in a fox hole as they say.

  My sister just came back from shopping. Bare shelves, no toilet paper, no potatoes or beans. They went to several stores to get stuff.

  Looking online at all the toilet paper "out of stock". Costco had to limit people to 2 packages of toilet paper because carts were overflowing with it.

  I'm afraid I haven't any stock of anything. Maybe two or three refried bean cans. Haven't had my kitchen fixed so I didn't have supplies. Maybe now is the time I will lose weight.

  1. whether you believe in the bible or not are you free to read /allowed to read the bible,the word of god?.

  2. whether you want to or not, are you free to read/ allowed to read the shepherds book, the word of men?.

  Of course the Shepards Book is more precious. Just like their WT and Awake is more precious than the bible. Now days, it's the mighty tablet and large screens that are more important.

  In Wt's history that I experienced, there was only one Watchtower (that was studied in 3 parts if I remember correctly) that portrayed women in a very positive light. It was about the women that accompanied Jesus.

  That's the only one that comes to mind. The rest are about women being a fragile vase, weaker vessel, must always know their place, always be below men, do everything without complaining and best of all, if your husband is abusive - be a better wife.

  i was talking with my sister and the subject of the wt using rahab as an exemplary example of theocratic warfare which is of course, lying.

  when the wt uses her, they fail to highlight the fact that she was a temple prostitute and an unbeliever when she "saved" the spies.. i said you know, the wt doesn't use the most famous liar as an example.

  that would be peter of course.

  I was talking with my sister and the subject of the WT using Rahab as an exemplary example of Theocratic warfare which is of course, lying. When the WT uses her, they fail to highlight the fact that she was a temple prostitute and an unbeliever when she "saved" the spies.

  I said you know, the WT doesn't use the most famous liar as an example. That would be Peter of course. He lied to save his own skin. She said that she thought that the WT did use him recently as a positive lying example. I don't know about that. I guess they could spin it as "Peter used TW and he was blessed because by staying out of jail and staying alive, he could then be used by J later on"

  The thing is, Jesus would then be a bigger liar because he told Peter he would deny him three times before the cock crowed. And that wasn't spoken of as a positive thing. Peter didn't think of it as a positive either.

  But it's all good if the WT says it.

  a picture so embarrassing, even wtbts inc does not want to describe it?

  this week's study, no 52, march 1 2020 wt dec 1919. picture description (on page 27) for pages 23 and 26 but not for the one on page 24, too embarrassing?

  picture it, page 24. the wt lady, with a head volume ~8 times that of the gentlemen sitting behind her, eager to have her voice boom in the kingdom hall, raising arms with 3 other "sisters", whereas all 4 males are abstaining.

  Look how progressive the bro in the back is with his baby holding skills. Maybe that is Sister Happy's husband and she is going to comment on that. And I get from the picture, that all the husbands are expecting a glowing report from their wives.

  my wife and i are not religious nor do we want to be.

  we are very set in our spiritual beliefs.

  we have worked with a jw who's family have been like a part of our family for 6 years.

  Everyone is different. Some children and adults, won't be bothered/influenced by just going to a few meetings. However, there are instances that can affect children very deeply and you won't know about it.

  From my own experiences growing up in this religion, I accepted what was said from the platform because I was told lying was bad, lying about God was punishable by everlasting death. So of course, things said at the hall, were going to be true otherwise they would suffer eternal death.

  We had books that showed death and violence to those that didn't serve God. Peer pressure. Constant encouragement to not live life now but wait till God makes things right on earth.

  One of the saddest videos that they have put out recently, shows a young child being offered a chance to expand his abilities to play the violin with other "worldly" children. His father continually pressures him to not do it till in the end, the child turns his back on the opportunity. Just so he can spend more time with god. Almost everyone that has grown up in this religion, lost out on their true creative abilities because of the Watchtower strongly discouraging doing anything other than going to meetings, go out in service, study the bible.

  My nieces were visited by their grandparents a few years ago. Their mother had been "disassociated" before they were born and she was shunned by her parents. So when they came to visit, they took them someplace fun but then showed them the video that has been posted here of the boy with the "magic" toy. When they came back, they went in their room and began to cry. Why? Because they were going to have to throw away their toys they loved that were "magical" or suffer God's wrath. One video. One time.

  So I would say if you want to take the chance to let them have alone time with her, take her to meetings, I would have a discussion about how you would like to hear about what she did with them. What did the meetings talk about, how did she feel about those subjects. And I would do it every time she went. Children are sponges as they say.

  #2 Remember when they used to have a bible opened? That is so old school.

  #1 Trying to make out that anyone who has such a car, is looking for some fast women - the guy is targeting ladies with shopping bags. But we see the clean cut JW's are having the better life...

  #5 We know what the teacher and all the kids are thinking about her answer.... But Let's Make Sure we pressure all the JW school kids into "standing up for the truth"

  #6 Let's pretend we're in the paradise! I'm sure God will make it possible for us to breathe under water so we can marvel at all the beauty. Ok enough of this going to fun places. We need to be at the meetings and standing by our carts.
